CRANE OPERATION - LIFTING AND RIGGING

Operations that are not seen as hazardous can become hazardous when we try to lift, lower or move them. Whether we are using mechanical devices or doing it manually, gravity and momentum play vital roles and can cause accident if personnel involve are not appropriately trained. People can be harmed when items are being lifted or lowered in many ways. Dropping the load is one and can be caused by failure of slings, chains, rope; failure of securing point on load; failure of lifting equipment; crane or other equipment toppling; swinging load; people being in the wrong place (i.e. no failure of equipment).
